• Earth Day is a day full of get learning opportunities! Here are some ways to have fun!

 

1. Mix 3/4 cup flour, 1/2 cup water, 1 envelope of unflavored gelatin and 3 tablespoons of corn syrup.

2. Once combined, add 3 to 4 cups of birdseed.

3. After the ingredients are all mixed together,  flatten the seed mixture out onto a baking sheet.

4. Then use cookie cutters  to make fun shapes.

5. Poke a hole in the feeder, tie a string through it, leaving enough space to be able to hang it from a branch, and then allow the feeders to dry overnight.

6. Place them all around your garden to attract some bird friends!

 

Scrap Paper Earth

Allow children to cut up old Magazines once they have practice their fine motor development. Glue scraps of paper on to a paper plate and allow children to paint blue and green on the scraps.

Crayon Shapes

First, set your kids to work gathering their broken crayons and peeling off the paper.

  • Next, put various bits (you can organize them by like color or get creative to make new multi-hued crayons) into mini muffin tins lined with silicone muffin cups or any silicone baking mold you choose. TIP — Don’t overfill the molds.
  • Next, put them into the oven preheated to 275 F degrees and let them melt for about three to five minutes. They are done when they begin to smoke slightly so be sure to keep an eye on them.
  • Lastly, remove them from the oven and allow to cool.

Construction Paper

Get 2 larger paper bags for each child. Cut a large oval out of the bottom of one. Slide it into other bag, open end first, so that the oval is on the top. The oval will be the monster’s mouth. Decorate the top of the bag with construction paper eyes, mouth and hair. Poke a small hole on the top center, about 2″ from edge, and another on the back, about 3″ from the top. Run a pipe cleaner through the two holes and twist together to make handle. Then take the monsters for a walk and “feed” them any trash you find.

Fill a muffin pan with water and food coloring. Then allow children to use eyedroppers to squeeze water on to coffee filters (great for small motor control).

When they dry, they will look like Earth!
