As parents of toddlers and preschoolers growing up in Phoenix we have the huge responsibility of keeping our little ones hydrated! This can be a battle when you have little ones who maybe don’t enjoy drinking water or who are still transitioning off of bottles and formula. An awesome, alternative way to push hydration is with homemade smoothies! The flavor options for smoothies are endless and also provide an opportunity for a major #parentinghack if you can sneak in some protein powder and veggies!
Strawberry and Watermelon Smoothie (with optional chia seeds)
(While chia seeds may give your little one a strange texture to get used to they provide an excellent source of Omega 3’s and are so worthwhile!)
1 1/2 Cups Cubed Watermelon
I Cup Frozen Strawberries
1/2 Frozen and Cubed Banana
1/2 – 3/4 Cup Liquid of Choice (Almond Milk, Water or Coconut Water are great options)
1 Lime
1 Tbsp Chia Seeds (Optional)
Green Peach Smoothie
I Cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
2 Cups Spinach
1 Frozen Banana
1 1/2 Cups Frozen Peaches
1 – 4oz Container Greek Yogurt
Smooth Sailing Smoothie Tips –
Prep all ingredients for smoothies the night before and store in a refrigerated ziploc bag overnight – makes breakfast so easy to throw in the blender!
Most smoothies combine ingredients with water or milk, for an added boost of hydration – try using coconut water!
For an added protein boost add protein powder or plain greek yogurt!
