Summertime is a wonderful season full of popsicles, playing outside, and enjoying the warmer temperatures. However, it’s important to change up your child’s routine during the summer months to ensure that he or she is prepared for daycare and ready to take on the day as the temperatures rise. Below, we will discuss some important daycare tips for the summer time, but if you’re interested in enrolling your child in a summer program in Arizona, contact Valley Learning Centers now! Make Sure Your Kiddo is Dressed Properly
Check the weather forecast to ensure that your kiddo is dressed appropriately for the day. As we all know, Arizona can get extremely hot and dry. Choose outfits for your kiddo that are light, breathable, and are easily layered. If your son or daughter gets cold in the classroom, add a light sweater or jacket to his or her outfit that can be easily shed when running outside for recess or playtime. Further, it’s important to choose the right type of footwear that are durable and perfect for running, jumping, and skipping. Sandals should always have a strap and a thick sole so that there is no chance of your kiddo losing his or her shoe outside or the shoe absorbing too much heat and possibly melting in extreme temperatures.
Talk About Hydration
Temperatures that are in the triple digits can be dangerous, and it’s crucial to your child’s health that he or she drinks plenty of water. Send a reusable cup to daycare with your child, and talk to his or her teacher about making sure that your kiddo is getting plenty of water during the day. Speak with your child about the importance of water and that he or she needs to make sure to drink plenty of it during the day. When your son or daughter arrives home from daycare, prepare a healthy snack and make sure you include a large glass of cold water as well. Dehydration can lead to some serious issues, so ensuring that your kiddo is drinking plenty of H2O will keep him or her healthy and happy.
Apply Sunscreen
Since the sun is so intense here in Arizona, sunscreen is essential to protect from painful sunburns. If your child isn’t a huge fan of using sunscreen, you can purchase lightweight UV-blocking shirts and pants that will offer SPF 50+ without any of the greasy sunscreen feeling. Don’t forget the importance of a wide sunhat and UV-blocking sunglasses as well. The best way to avoid sunscreens is to always play in the shade. However, that isn’t always an option, so having plenty of sun protection will ensure that painful and irritating sunburns won’t be a part of your summer. If you know that your kiddo will spend time outside at daycare during the summer, request that he or she wears a sun hat and sun shirt to play. These items can easily be pulled on and will help your kiddo enjoy his or her time outside without any burning.
Go to Bed on Time
With the increased amount of sunlight during the day and many evening activity options, it can be easy to ignore normal bedtimes and stay up late. While it’s a fun way to make memories, it can mean waking up the next day for daycare and your kiddo struggling to stay awake during the day. Try limiting staying up late to the weekends, and make it a point to go to bed on time. Not only will this help your son or daughter get plenty of sleep, but it will also ensure that he or she is ready to take on another fun and exciting day at daycare.
